Isabella is the sister of Kevin's best friend; they met when Kevin was twenty-six, they married shortly after, and they had Jade two years after they were married. Kevin was a bit disappointed that Jade wasn't a boy when she was born, but he quickly got over it. In fact, he loved his little girl so much that he couldn't be away from her. Kevin was a fairly successful rider, but he retired five years after Cole was born. He opened a store with his wife, and both started working there. They make enough for living and Kevin has savings from his years as a rider, so they live fairly well.

Jade has been interested in horses and riding since she was little. She loved seeing her dad ride and she always asked her mother to go to see him race. Her father was her childhood hero and she wanted to be just like him. When she was a bit older, Kevin taught her how to ride. Ever since then, she has done it almost daily; she loves to feel the breeze and the sun on her skin. Jade wanted to be a rider like her father was, but she knew that no one would take her seriously, because she was female. That's when she decided to fake being male. She was sure she could pull it easily, since she was used to wearing boys' clothes, her name was ambiguous enough, and people usually confused her for a boy. It has been five years since she started doing this, and she has gotten some renown during this time.

Kevin didn't care much about his daughter acting like a tomboy, but unlike her husband, Isabella was worried about Jade not acting like a lady. She always tried to teach her to behave like one, but she always failed. Jade never listened to what her mother said, and she continued being herself. Her mother didn't give up, but she stopped bothering her as much. On her nineteen birthday, the Everthorne testers came. She wasn't particularly interested in becoming a mage, since she doubted she had any magical skill. To much of her surprise, the results were positive.

After Everthorne, Jade returned home to meet her proud father. He was really happy that his daughter managed to become a mage. The first couple of days after her arrival, she spend her time telling her brother Cole stories about it, about her friends, about the weird nobles, everything. It took her a considerable amount of effort to adapt herself to the life as a mage. She had to wear skirts and that still bothered her. Not nearly as much, thanks to Darren's help, but she still disliked them. This time, however, she couldn't avoid wearing them, so she gave in... but she sneaked back into pants whenever people weren't looking.

Even after she became a mage, her mother kept trying to arrange a wedding for Jade. Of course she didn't like this idea, at all, so she did her best to ruin her plans until she, with the help of Cole, managed to convincer to stop, at least for a while. Her brother also started in professional tennis during this time and as she promised, she was there rooting for him. Things haven't changed much about her aside from this, she still loves riding horses as much as she did before.

Jade is a tomboy, she spent most of her childhood playing with boys and she never liked the things most girls do. Her brother is probably her best friend, they get along really well and they spend a lot of time together. He supports her with everything she does, since she does the same for him. They usually ride together and play tennis during their free time. He'll probably miss her a lot during her stay on Everthorne, obviously she'll miss him a lot too. Even if Jade's the older sibling, Cole is more mature than her. She quite impulsive and childish, she acts on emotion and she usually doesn't think about the repercussion of her acts.

She is really upbeat, friendly, honest and active. She likes playing outside, and there's nothing she enjoys more than riding. She is really stubborn, something she got from her father. It's really hard to convince her that she's wrong, even when it's fairly obvious. Her temper is quite short, but she usually doesn't hold grudges. It's she the one that starts the fights most of the time, anyway.

At first glance, Jade looks like an effeminate boy. Her figure is far from curvaceous; she's slender and she isn't very tall. Her hair is brown and she keeps it short. Her eyes are slightly bigger than average and they are a light shade of brown. Jade wears boys' clothes most of the time, because she thinks they are far more comfortable than dresses and because she's usually pretending to be one. Even so, she wouldn't mind wearing a dress for a while if she had to, but she wouldn't be too happy about it either.
